Welcome to Work Place Chaplaincy SCOTLAND
Christians believe that God's profound concern for the everyday life of all people is most clearly revealed in the life of Jesus, the carpenter of Nazareth, who in the mystery of faith proves to be the Son of God.
The church, then, is called to concern itself with the daily life of the world and, in the realm of paid work, this is the role of Work Place Chaplaincy Scotland.
What Chaplains Do
Chaplains are men and women, paid and voluntary, ordained and lay people,
who feel called to this challenging ministry.
They visit places of work to speak with, listen to and affirm people at all levels; to share in their stories, in complete confidence, which may be light-hearted, critical or deeply personal. They seek to relate the Gospel to what is seen and heard, bringing Christian values to relationships, methods or work and work-life situations.
They extend their caring, pastoral ministry to everyone in workplaces throughout
Scotland:
• from shipyards on the Clyde to engineering works in Angus;
• at the gateway of Scotland's ports and airports, and offshore in
the oil and gas fields;
• in our local authority offices and in our shopping malls and city
centres.
It has always been essential for the Churches to work together. Workplaces welcome a united approach from the churches and therefore Work Place Chaplaincy SCOTLAND makes every effort to develop an ecumenical working practice. All of the main denominations are committed to the outreach of Work Place Chaplaincy SCOTLAND.
Chaplains are trained to extend their ministry to all in the workplace. They respond to need whenever it exists, helping people individually or referring them to other agencies.
