“Our work place chaplain is an important member of our staff. He is always available to provide counselling and support to our staff, and was instrumental in setting up a Peace Room within the Council’s offices. Obviously he officiates at key events to the Council such as Armistice and the Christmas Lights Nights, but it his availability to staff on a regular basis that is his most important role.”
David K Dorward, Chief Executive
Dundee City Council
“The work place chaplain has an outside ear for those members of the staff team that require to have that. It’s an opportunity for people to know someone is there for them when they need it, particularly when it is of a personal nature.”
George McDonald, Manager
Boots Princes Street, Edinburgh
“We were extremely happy to welcome David (Logan – volunteer chaplain) into our work place and he has quickly become part of our store team, offering a friendly and confidential ear to both customers and colleagues from varying backgrounds and beliefs.
Treating our colleagues and customers with respect and integrity are two of the key values we have in Asda and David brings these values to our workplace in abundance.
He even helps our customers find the more difficult to locate products, with a chat on the way!”
Robert Hallyburton, General Store Manager
Want to know why it’s vital that WPCS keeps on supporting people in the workplace? Read this chaplain’s account of an introductory visit to one outlet of a large national retailer in a busy city: “The manager was very welcoming, paused, took off his glasses, and looked as though he might cry. So I went in and closed the door. ’I am really really pleased to see you,’ he said with feeling. He repeated it. ’Do anything, go anywhere, use the training room – anytime’.”
