Minute of the Scottish Churches’ Industrial Mission (SCIM) Council held on Monday 4 September 2006 at Scottish Churches House Dunblane.
PRESENT:
Rev Colin Anderson (Convener, Church of Scotland), Mrs Cate Adams (Team of Chaplains), Rev Jan Adamson (United Reformed Church), Mr George McSorley (Co-opted), Mr Lewis Rose (SCIM Co-Ordinator), Rev Dr David Sinclair (Church of Scotland, Church and Society Council), Mr Matt Smith (Co-opted), Mr Ted Wallace (Methodist Church) and Mr John Thomson (Secretary).
APOLOGIES:

The Convener the constituted the meeting with prayer.
21 Minute of Previous Meeting
The minute of the meeting held on 2 May 2006 was approved.
22 Matters Arising
None.
23 Pensions
Mr Matt Smith presented a detailed report on issues in pensions and circulated copies of the “UNISON Briefing on Pension Issues” to those present (see Appendix 1).
There then followed a wide ranging discussion amongst members.
It was agreed to:
- Circulate the briefing paper to all members of Council and carry forward discussion to the meeting of Council to be held in January 2007 when any policy decisions could be taken.
- Give encouragement to members to consult with their own denominations as required.
- Include the wider debate of state pension provision as well as occupational and private schemes.
It was suggested that consideration be given to
- Engagement with the Scottish Pensioners’ Forum
- Holding a SCIM Conference on pensions in 2007 or including it as the topic for the Wallace Lecture in September 2007.
- Representatives of the team of chaplains were also encouraged to meet with their colleagues and obtain the comments of those with whom they encounter in the work place.
24 Co-ordinator’s Report
Mr Lewis Rose presented his report to Council (see Appendix 2).
25 Retired Team Members
Council noted the suggestion from the Convener to host a lunch for former full-time colleagues in Industrial Mission.
26 Date of Next Meeting
The next meeting will be held on 31 October 2006 at Edinburgh Airport.

The meeting was closed with the saying of the Grace together.
