Adam Plenderleith

Breaking news: Our most recent volunteer chaplain in the West, Adam Plenderleith formerly a healthcare chaplain with the NHS has attracted the interest of one of our national newspapers! Adam, together with Rev Neil E Allison, has recently published a book, The Diary of the Reverend Matthew Paterson, a distant predecessor to Adam in his former role as chaplain at the Royal Infirmary Glasgow, which received a favourable review by Russell Leadbetter in the 9th January 2018 edition of The Herald.

The diary offers a window to a world where life expectancy, especially on going into hospital, was very much reduced and the wide differences in people’s attitudes towards life, death and faith were just as apparent as today. Adam has done a great service to chaplaincy by rescuing this memoir from obscurity, even oblivion and though we will recognise that we live in a different world from Matthew Paterson, there are still rich lessons to be learned from the past.

The review of the book and how you may get a copy can be found at the following link: http://www.heraldscotland.com/life_style/15815128.Reverend_Matthew_Paterson___Memoirs_of_a_Victorian_hospital_chaplain/

Well done Adam and Neill!

Wishing you a great 2018
