THE quote on our cover picture panel gives an insight into what employers think about the benefits of using WPCS. Read further positive feedback from Gary Watson, Team North: Scottish Borders Royal Mail Delivery Sector Manager: “I am a supporter of having a workplace chaplain. It is another way of engaging with staff, in particular when they have serious personal issues that they are struggling to talk to others about. This in turn benefits the business as on many occasions it can prevent an employee’s absence. I have personal experience of this from when I was a delivery office manager in Kelso. While I know that much depends on the style of the particular chaplain, I know the chaplain had a good relationship with the staff in general across my sector. Key to this are regular visits, so that staff become familiar with the person. Whilst the chaplain is not always appreciated by all the staff, I believe that this is outweighed by the times when an individual actually needs the services of the chaplain – which, on many occasions, is for him or her to simply listen. A specific example of this was an employee who lost his wife suddenly. Whilst he was offered ATOS and also spent a number of sessions with his local manager he found it more helpful to speak with the chaplain.”
