Work place disputes often have a history of gradually building disharmony caused by a breakdown of relationship. This is true in both business disputes and industrial relations. Legal intervention will probably end any prospect of continued relations. Indeed the impact of official or legal proceedings both financially and emotionally can in themselves create an irreparable breakdown in relationship.
As a trusted and respected independent party, chaplains can often assist in creating an atmosphere for helpful dialogue, calming emotions and building consensus in a non-threatening manner.
The chaplain’s presence in an organisation should always be seen as fully independent and confidential, reporting to no-one within the line management of the organisation; yet knowledgeable about the organisation and available to all as a confidante, advocate and friend.
